Mountain View-based messaging application – WhatsApp gets a new feature on WhatsApp Payments. WhatsApp on Android beta is coming up with a new feature that allows its users to request money from their relatives, friends, and contacts using the app. The WhatsApp ‘Request Money’ option is live on the Android beta version. Most of the users, who are using the regular version of Android won’t be able to see this feature. Android beta 2.18.113 has received this latest feature. This Request Money feature is available in only Android beta version not in the regular versions.
The WhatsApp Payments are now live in Indian region and the company is continuing the beta-testing. This payment option is built on UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and permits the direct transfers via the bank account of the user, provided he has a UPI id. This kind of payments generally relies on SIM verification for the feature to function, and the user also requires his mobile number to be connected with his bank account. The same number is compulsory to be used with the messaging application in order to permit the payments to feature to run.
People might have a question in their minds that what this feature is all about and how will it work on WhatsApp payments?
Users should have an idea that Request Money option is usually available only on the UPI-based payments applications such as PayTM, PhonePe, and Google Tez, etc. It powers users to scan a QR code or put their UPI ID to demand a payment. WhatsApp has rolled out this feature recently that is made available on Android and iOS platforms. Interestingly, this feature says that to request money, the other user need not be on the most popular messaging app and could have a UPI id with any other application.
This latest feature will allow users to request money from their contacts and to do so, one needs to go to the settings of the WhatsApp, then select Payments and click on New Payment. Here you will be finding the choice to select the UPI ID or select the Scan QR code on the right-hand side on the uppermost, followed by contacts. Select either the UPI ID option or Scan QR code.
Now the app will come up with two options – ‘Request Money’ and ‘Send Money’. The request for money is valid for 24 hours only, so you can see the time-restriction on it. And once your request has been accepted by the other user, the money will be credited to your bank account instantly. Then a user can see a list of payments requests through the payment settings and also the status of the requests.
