Since being introduced back in 2015, Apple’s Butterfly keyboards have been rising a lot of discussions among customers and experts alike. According to Apple, the keyboard is supposed to be smoother and more stable since it uses a butterfly-like mechanism below the keys. It was also advertised to offer responsiveness and ease of use. In 2016, the same design was used in MacBook Pros as well. All along, users have been confused about the upgrade, since it has been confusing a lot of users. Now, hitting Apple on the face, a class action lawsuit has been filed against the company, against the implementation of faulty MacBook Pro keyboards.
Several claims have been raised in the lawsuit, mainly regarding the inefficiency in Apple’s decision to make the right amends to the design. More importantly, the users want the company to acknowledge the fact that the design is not user-friendly and further make changes so that user-experience would be improved in the long run. The plaintiffs are also looking forward to get the legal fees and damages that were not able to be fixed by the Apple stores, despite being under warranty. Although the result expectations are low, users are now able to join the class action.
The two plaintiffs in the case has suffered from the lack of care from Apple. The company did not only refuse to make the changes and required a lot of time for setting things up, upon which the offer was declined by one of the plaintiffs. More importantly, another plaintiff’s keyboard had issues with the space key, and Apple had quoted around $700 for fixing the mentioned issue. In addition to the mentioned case, there are a lot of people who have suffered from the non-usability of these keyboards. Many petitions were raised via Change.org to pressure Apple towards making the right change.
